Between Day and Night
Molas Lake, San Juan Mountains, Colorado
There is a fleeting moment in the mountains when daylight has not entirely surrendered, yet night has already begun to arrive.
I photographed “Between Day and Night” at Molas Lake in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, just as the landscape slipped into the beginning of blue hour. The last warm light of sunset still touched the distant peaks and illuminated the clouds, while the sky above deepened into brilliant shades of blue.
Then there was the moon.
Suspended above the mountains as the evening light faded, it became the quiet counterpoint to everything happening below. Beneath it, the still waters of Molas Lake gathered the entire scene, reflecting the mountains, clouds, color and moonlight into an almost perfect mirror.
What moved me most was the contrast. Warmth against cool. Earth against sky. Day against night. For a few brief moments, neither seemed willing to give way to the other.
This is Colorado as I remember it: wild, luminous, peaceful and impossibly grand.

A sleek, modern black float frame that suspends the print with a subtle reveal around all edges, giving the artwork a gallery-quality depth and presence.

Dark Brown Float Frame
A warm, natural wood float frame with rich grain and dark espresso tones. The floating mount brings dimension and an organic elegance to the piece.

Acrylic Mount
The photograph is face-mounted behind optically-clear museum-quality acrylic, creating extraordinary depth, luminosity, and a contemporary floating effect on the wall.
