Between Mountains and Sea
Prince William Sound, Alaska
There are places in Alaska where the landscape feels almost too immense to comprehend from the ground. From above, everything changes.
I photographed Between Mountains and Sea with my drone near Prince William Sound, Alaska, during an unexpected stretch of time while waiting for the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel to reopen for our return toward Anchorage. Rather than simply wait, I sent the drone into the late-afternoon sky.
What I discovered from above was extraordinary: the rugged Chugach Mountains descending toward the water, deep green wilderness following the contours of the land, and the unmistakable meeting point between mountain and sea that defines so much of coastal Alaska.
The subdued atmosphere and distant haze gave the landscape a quiet, almost painterly quality. Instead of dramatic light demanding attention, the scene revealed itself gradually through layers of mountain, forest, water and sky.
Sometimes the photographs I remember most aren't the ones I planned. They are the ones found in the spaces between destinations, when an unexpected delay becomes an invitation to look a little farther.

Every piece is crafted with the same care as the photograph itself. Choose from two handcrafted float frames or a crystal-clear acrylic face mount.

Black Float Frame
A sleek, modern black float frame that suspends the print with a subtle reveal around all edges, giving the artwork a gallery-quality depth and presence.

Dark Brown Float Frame
A warm, natural wood float frame with rich grain and dark espresso tones. The floating mount brings dimension and an organic elegance to the piece.

Acrylic Mount
The photograph is face-mounted behind optically-clear museum-quality acrylic, creating extraordinary depth, luminosity, and a contemporary floating effect on the wall.
