The Little One

Botswana, Africa

Collector's Reserve Edition · Limited to 50 · Signed & Numbered

Different deserves a place on the wall.

During my time photographing wildlife in Botswana, it would have been easy to keep my lens trained only on the animals Africa is famous for: elephants, lions, leopards and the great silhouettes moving across the landscape.

But then there were these little ones.

Perched quietly on a slender branch, this tiny bee-eater stopped me with an extraordinary display of color. Emerald green, brilliant gold, touches of turquoise and that unmistakable dark mask surrounding an intensely watchful eye. Against the softness of the Botswana sky, it felt less like a wildlife photograph and more like a portrait.

This image is part of a small group of African bird portraits I am introducing to the SLG.Art collection, including its companion piece, The Sentinel. They are intentionally different from the large-scale wildlife imagery one might expect from Africa, and that is precisely why I wanted them here.

I want the artwork I create to feel unique. Collectable. Unexpected.

I want someone to walk into a room, stop in front of one of my pieces and wonder what they are looking at before they ever wonder whether it matches the furniture.

So perhaps this little series comes with an invitation: Get used to different.

Because sometimes the smallest subject can become the piece no one forgets.

Photographed in Botswana, Africa.
