Where Fire Meets Water
Gjáin Canyon, South Iceland
Some landscapes are so extraordinary that they seem almost impossible, even when you are standing right in front of them.
Deep within Iceland’s Þjórsárdalur Valley lies Gjáin, a remarkable volcanic canyon where waterfalls carve their way through ancient basalt formations. It was here, above the cascading waters of Gjárfoss, that I discovered a composition unlike anything I had imagined.
Photographing from my drone allowed me to capture the remarkable layers of this landscape, from the distant mountains and winding river to the dramatic waterfall plunging into an almost impossibly beautiful turquoise pool.
But it was the color that truly captivated me.
Brilliant autumn golds, fiery oranges, and deep amber foliage seemed to ignite against the dark volcanic cliffs. Below, the cool blue-green water created a stunning contrast, bringing together two completely different worlds in one extraordinary scene.
I composed this photograph to allow the eye to travel through the landscape, following the river as it winds between ancient rock formations before surrendering to the waterfall below.
There is something almost theatrical about this place. The richness of the autumn colors, the sculptural strength of the basalt, and the movement of the water create a scene that feels both powerful and unexpectedly intimate.
Where Fire Meets Water is my interpretation of Iceland at its most colorful, dramatic, and unforgettable.
Presented as museum-grade acrylic fine art, this photograph is designed to bring extraordinary depth, color, and presence into a space. The luminous water and warm autumn foliage create a compelling visual experience, particularly when illuminated with dedicated artwork lighting.
This work belongs to my exclusive Collectors Reserve, limited to just 70 editions worldwide. Once the edition is sold out, it will never be reproduced.

Dark Brown Float Frame
A warm, natural wood float frame with rich grain and dark espresso tones. The floating mount brings dimension and an organic elegance to the piece.

The photograph is face-mounted behind optically-clear museum-quality acrylic, creating extraordinary depth, luminosity, and a contemporary floating effect on the wall.
