Icelandic Highlands, Iceland
From high above Iceland’s geothermal highlands, I photographed a landscape that seemed to exist somewhere between nature and abstraction. Dark, winding waterways cut through sweeping gray terrain, while flashes of electric blue trace the earth’s intricate contours. Wisps of cloud drift across the surface, briefly obscuring the extraordinary patterns below.
I chose to interpret this aerial photograph in black and white while preserving the striking blue tones that first drew my attention. The contrast transforms an immense volcanic landscape into a composition of movement, texture, and unexpected color. What appears almost like an abstract painting is, in fact, the earth itself.
