Elemental
Icelandic Highlands, Iceland
Some landscapes are beautiful. Others are almost impossible to comprehend.
Elemental is a striking aerial perspective of Iceland's volcanic Highlands, where electric blue crater lakes, ancient volcanic ridges, and brilliant green mountains collide in an extraordinary display of natural contrast.
Photographed from my drone, this image reveals a landscape that could never be fully appreciated from the ground. The enormous turquoise crater lake commands the foreground, surrounded by dark volcanic earth and deep rust-colored slopes. Beyond it, a series of intensely green ridges rises from the black terrain, leading the eye toward another brilliant blue lake and the immense mountains in the distance.
What makes this image so remarkable to me is its complexity. Every layer reveals something different. The shapes, textures, colors, and dramatic transitions between light and shadow create an almost abstract composition, yet every element is part of Iceland's extraordinary natural landscape.
I remember looking down at this scene and being overwhelmed by what I was seeing. The contrast was astonishing. It was one of those rare moments when I knew I was capturing something truly exceptional.
Elemental represents everything I love about photographing from the air. The ability to discover patterns, formations, and relationships within a landscape that are otherwise impossible to see.
Presented on museum-grade acrylic, the deep volcanic blacks, luminous greens, and extraordinary turquoise blues take on remarkable depth and dimension. This is a statement piece designed to command attention, particularly in contemporary interiors and expansive spaces.
