There is a saying among photographers that if you want to create something different, you have to be willing to look where no one else is looking.
As a storm swept across Monument Valley, I found myself doing exactly that. While many lenses remained fixed on the iconic sandstone buttes, I instinctively turned in the opposite direction. In that fleeting instant, the desert sky broke open. A brilliant beam of golden sunlight poured through the storm clouds, illuminating a solitary sandstone formation that most visitors would have walked right past. The moment lasted only seconds before the light disappeared.
To me, this photograph is a reminder that extraordinary beauty is often found where we least expect it. Standing there on Navajo Nation land, surrounded by dramatic skies, warm desert light, and the quiet stillness that follows a storm, the experience felt deeply peaceful...almost spiritual. It remains one of those unforgettable moments that reminds me why I continue to chase light across the world.
